New rules have been put in place to cut the use of a pesticide blamed for killing millions of bees in Ontario. The provincial government plans to cut neonicotinoid use by 80 per cent by 2017.

SMDHU ON BOARD WITH NEW E-CIGARETTE LEGISLATION

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is backing the provincial government's proposed legislation to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes to anyone under the age of 19. Tobacco Program Coordinator Leslie Gordon says anything to stop youth from becoming addicted to nicotine is a great idea.

Local police are launching the Festive R.I.D.E. campaign today (Wed Nov 26). Starting this week, OPP and South Simcoe Police will be out in full force making sure drivers are following the rules of the road and staying sober behind the wheel.

TWO MEN INJURED IN ADJ-TOS BARN COLLAPSE

Two men have been seriously injured after a barn collapsed on them at an Adjala-Tosorontio property. Strong winds Monday evening (Nov 24) blew the barn down, pinning the two men underneath. A 64 year-old Essa man and 25 year-old Mulmur man were taken to hospital in serious condition.

MILLIONS BEING INVESTED INTO CFB BORDEN INFRASTRUCTURE

132-million dollars is being invested into infrastructure at CFB Borden. Construction is underway of a new Health Services Centre and a new Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School.

COST OF COFFEE INCREASING WEDNESDAY

Tim Hortons is blaming lack of rain in Brazil for its decision to raise coffee prices. Starting Wednesday, the cost of a cup of coffee will rise by an average of 10-cents. But Tims says the increase might vary by region.

A 15 year-old Alliston girl has been missing since Saturday (Nov. 22). Hailey McVicars is described as white, 5' 4" in height, 150 pounds, with dark brown or red/brown hair, brown eyes, and fair complexion.

Hydro One crews are still working to restore power to small pockets of customers throughout South Simcoe. A few customers east of Beeton and in Adjala-Tosorontio remain in the dark (as of 12:30 p.m.). Strong winds overnight downed trees and power lines across the province.
