DANGERS OF SHARING INAPPROPRIATE PHOTOS: SSP

The South Simcoe Police is urging parents to talk with their kids about the dangers of posting or sharing inappropriate pictures online. On Wednesday (Oct. 22), detectives were investigating two separate incidents of teenagers exchanging naked pictures through social media sites.

FLAG RAISING IN NEW TEC FOR WORLD POLIO DAY

Today (Oct. 24) is World Polio Day, and the Town of New Tecumseth is flying the "End Polio Now" flag. Rotary International has helped to almost complete eradicate polio worldwide since starting the fight back in the 1980's.

Innisfil largest area is Ward 7, which stretches from Lake Simcoe to include Cookstown. Four residents are running for this councillor seat. Candidate Debra Harrison says the Town needs to implement more options for transportation for residents.

INCREASED ADVANCE VOTER TURNOUT IN NEW TEC AND ADJ-TOS

In New Tecumseth, 2,960 voters took advantage of advance polls. That's about 13 per cent of the over 23,000 eligible voters. The six advance polls attracted more voters than in 2010, when only 983 advance votes were cast.

BEETON GIRL NAMED ADVOCACY CHAMPION FOR CYSTIC FIBROSIS CANADA

Madi Vanstone of Beeton has been named an advocacy champion by Cystic Fibrosis Canada. Earlier this year, the grade 8 student lobbied the provincial government to cover the cost of Kalydeco, which cost $350,000 a year.

NEW TEC HIRES NEW PARKS & REC DIRECTOR

The Town of New Tecumseth has hired a new director of Parks, Recreation and Culture. Patrick D'Almada will join the Town next month. He brings over 30 years experience and has previously worked in Toronto, Orangeville, Milton and Burlington.
