NEW TEC COUNCIL BEGINS STEPS TO FILL VACANCY

New Tecumseth Council will declare the deputy mayor seat vacant at tonight's (aug 21) council meeting.
It is a necessary administrative move they are legally required to do under the Municipal Act.
Deputy Mayor Jamie Smith passed away suddenly back on August 1.

HORNETS MAIN CAMP STARTS

The Alliston Hornets are about to embark on a new season.
Main camp starts for the Provincial Junior Hockey League club on Monday (aug 21).
As always with Junior hockey there were changes in the offseason with the biggest being Darrin Shannon stepping down as Head Coach.

CELEBRATE THE TRANS CANADA TRAIL IN COOKSTOWN

A Celebration of the Trans Canada Trail will take place in Cookstown this Saturday (aug 26)
Construction on the Trans Canada Trail began in 1992 and as it stands now the project is approximately 93 percent complete.

PARTIAL ECLIPSE VISIBLE TODAY

Viewing events will be held today across Canada where people can gather to watch a partial solar eclipse.
Unlike a swath of the U.S., Canada won't see a total solar eclipse, where the moon completely covers the sun, blacking out the sky and momentarily turning day into night.

MUSEUM ON THE BOYNE GETS AN UPGRADE

Renovations to the Museum on the Boyne have been completed.
The Alliston-based museum received funding from the Canadian Heritage Legacy fund to help out with the makeover.

DATE SET FOR SOUTH SIMCOE POLICE CIVILIAN ACADEMY

South Simcoe Police is holding a Citizens Police Academy September 15th.
The 9 session course will be held once a week and according to Constable Rich Williamson it will cover the in's and out's of what goes on during actual investigations.

ALLISTON'S GRUSNICK SCORES CANADA'S LONE POINTS

A silver lining to a dark cloud for Canada's Women's Rugby team.
Canada suffered its first loss of the Women's Rugby World Cup in Dublin Thursday (aug 17).
Second-ranked New Zealand defeated the No. 3 Canadians 48-5 in the preliminary round.

DNA MAY HAVE CLEARED A COLD CASE

An arrest has been made in a cold case.
South Simcoe Police took a 24 year old Aurora man into custody and charged him in relation to an armed robbery that took place in November 2011.
They believe he held up the Country Style Donuts on Holland Street West in Bradford at gunpoint.
